The Weakenders was formed in April 1997 to play local courses on a regular basis. It is an informal group with no commitment, no club rules, no committee, etc. You are invited to play as and when you can and to enjoy different courses throughout the year.

The meetings take place every third Friday. Notification of the next meeting is sent to each member a week in advance by e-mail. Players notify their intention to play or not (this is important as more and more courses now have booked T times). At each meeting the players contribute £10 and the winner takes the pot but buys the drinks and nibbles afterwards.

We play for three main trophies throughout the year. They are:

The Brewster Trophy:

This is an individual competition based on each player’s three best Stableford scores over the year.

The Saunders Trophy:

This is a pairs competition. Players choose their own partners and enter a maximum of three scores.

The Lewis Trophy

This is the annual singles knockout competition.

Tours are also arranged and visits have been made to Florida and South Africa, Devon, Normandy and Tunisia. We hold a BBQ in August and the Glittering Annual Prizegiving in January. We also take a table at the Lord’s Taverners Christmas Lunch and play a Greensome competition beforehand.

An internal handicap system operates based on the scores from the previous year (minimum 3 returns). Many of the courses played have been recommended by members including: Goodwood, Goodwood Park, Ham Manor, Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Hayling Island, Worthing, Liphook, Hindhead, the Dyke, Pyecombe, Meon Valley, Stoneham, Cowdray Park, etc.
